Half an hour later, Gregor was sacked out on Julian’s sectional while the Parsons men finished unpacked their suitcases. He was struggling to stay awake, but was losing the battle. Hoping to make it a bit longer, he flipped to the Food Network and checked out what was coming up next. “Hey, Henry? Come here, I want to show you something.”

The little boy ran out of his room and threw himself on the couch next to Gregor. “Here I am!”

Gregor pointed to the television. “I wanted you to see this show that’s about to start, it’s called Chopped Junior. It’s a cooking competition with kids.”

Henry snuggled in next to Gregor. “They let kids cook?”

Gregor grinned at the little boy. “Yup! I think you’re gonna like this show.”

“How was your day, Gregor?” Henry looked up at him.

“It was really busy. Your Daddy came up with a good idea for the hotel.” Gregor loved that Henry cared enough about him to ask about his day.

“Is it gonna keep us from getting another bad review?” Concern marred Henry’s face.

“I really hope so. I’m gonna make appetizers out of my favorite meals that we serve at the hotel and serve them on a stick like shish-ka-bob and we’re going to invite members of the Coast Guard and Air Force to come and eat the food.”

“I think that’s a good idea. What are you gonna feed the little kids?” The look on Henry’s face was serious.

Gregor hadn’t given that a thought. “Well, they’ll eat the grown up food.”

Henry shook his head. “No they won’t. Kids don’t like grown up food. They like kids’ food.”

Julian snorted from the living room door.

“Well, what kind of food do you think they’d eat?”

“Kids like food on sticks too, you know. We had a party at the end of the year at school and Jeff’s mom made fruit skewers.”

Gregor winked at Julian. “What’s a fruit skewer?”

Henry held his index fingers four inches apart. “It was a stick this big, with a chunk of pineapple, a piece of a red apple, grapes and a kiwi cut into the shape of a star on top.”

“Were they yummy?” Henry might just be on to something here. Gregor pulled out his phone and opened his Notes app.

“Yup! They were so yummy that we ate them all up.”

“I like that idea, Henry. What else do you think we could put on a stick?”

“PBJ sushi!” Henry hopped up on his knees, a big smile on his face. “Kids would love that!”

Julian stepped into the living room and sat next Gregor on the couch. “What is PBJ sushi?”

“It’s a rolled up peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut into little roll-ups. Jessie’s mom made them for the party. They were super yummy.” Henry rubbed his tummy.

While Henry was explaining it to Julian, Gregor was looking it up on his phone. He flipped the picture around to show Henry. “Is this it?”

“That’s exactly it.”

Gregor turned the phone around to show Julian. “According to the recipe, you cut off the crusts and roll the bread flat before you spread the peanut butter and then the jelly.
